On the 25th July 2016 GE, the parent company of GE Capital UK Limited (trading as GE Capital Direct, and formerly known as GE Capital Bank Limited), announced its decision to exit the UK Savings market.
We formally notified all customers on 1st September 2016, and in subsequent reminders, of our intention to close all GE Capital Direct savings accounts on 1st December 2016. All accounts have now been closed and any remaining funds returned to customers' linked nominated accounts.
All accounts have been closed due to the commercial decision of our parent company GE to voluntarily close down the UK savings business, GE Capital Direct, and for no other reason.

Yes. We wrote to all customers (by letter and email) on 1st September 2016 to notify of our intention to close all GE Capital Direct savings accounts on 1st December 2016. We also sent regular reminders during the notice period between 1st September and 1st December 2016.
In line with these communications all GE Capital Direct accounts were closed on 1st December 2016.
Your deposit, as well as any interest due, was returned to your linked nominated account on 1st December 2016.
A confirmation of closure letter and your final interest statement for your records will be sent to you by post within 5 working days. Please keep this in a safe place for your records. As accounts are now closed you will not be able to access your online account to reproduce this.

Beginning from the 2016/2017 tax year we have not deducted income tax from interest paid. You will be legally responsible for the payment of any tax due on your interest.
